Alex Shum, first violin

A native of Hong Kong, Alex Shum is a former member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Since coming to the U.S., Alex has earned degrees from St. John’s University, Minnesota, and the California Institute of the Arts. He won the Carmel Chamber Music Competition and was a Leonard Bernstein Fellow at the Tanglewood Festival. Alex is a current member of the Kansas City Symphony and the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. He is the leader of the Brookside String Quartet and enjoys organizing small ensembles for various private functions, including weddings, school and house concerts.
